Where did the name Muyiwa & The Riversongz come from?
Muyiwa

Muyiwa of course is my name which is a shortened version of Oluwalomuyiwa which means God has brought this one. I always enjoy telling people my full name Olawalomueleyiwa Adebayo Olarewaju Ishola Omoerin Tin Jogun Ola!!! Yep!! It’s a name!! The Riversongz bit comes from the story of the Prophet Ezekiel and the water that was flowing that came up to his ankle then Knees, then waist etc. we believed that our God given music would do the same, it would keep flowing. The only thing was when we began making inquiries we realised that RIVERSONGS was a name already taken so we changed the s to a Z!

Your Latest project is titled Declaring His Love Tell us about it.
Muyiwa

Men! Where do I start! It’s a celebration of 'HIS' Love for real. This particular recording is the second in the trilogy, the first one was Declaring His Power and the next and last one in that trilogy will be Declaring His Name. This particular recording was probably the best one to date, we had 2000 people at the recording and we had a great line up of brothers & sisters. Patrick Campbell the Bafta award winning Director Producer, Eddie Martin Emma award winning producer, Andrew Smith Femi Temowo... the list goes on. Between the team we had on stage behind cameras etc I can’t begin to count the amount of awards etc... The crowd was also an important part of this recording, this was the first time that we had people from as far afield as Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Northampton, Nottingham, Birmingham and they came to party. The songs themselves have elements of the American Indian culture (Hey Ya) African Culture (God of Miracles) and the English Culture (Let there be light) I could talk all night about the recording but you have to see it to feel me!!!

There are some great writers and producers on this project. Tell us about how you collaborated.
Muyiwa

Well Eddie Martin & I are the two writers, Eddie has written and produced for a list of names like Whitney Houston, Eternal, Neyo, Chris Brown, Jennifer Lopez......and then there’s the band MD Andrew Smith (West Life/Lauryn Hill), Keyboard Steve Turner (Kylie Minogue), Guitar Femi Temowo (Soweto Kinch/George Benson) and Drums Julien Brown (Shayne Ward/Shaggy/Jamelia)..... it was a dream team!

Dancity
What are your favourite tracks on the CD and why?
Muyiwa

Like most people I would say the entire album but there are different songs that do different things for me. E.G. Hey Ya! has a great energy and the celebration it sets off is incredible, then there is Let There Be Light, the vibe on that is incredible when listening back and hearing how some of the crowd were singing and in some casses screaming it is incredible. But the songs that are always gets me teary are Holy is the Lord and Safe In His Arms. Those two songs somehow both remind me of my parents who are now both dead.......

Dancity
What is it like travelling and singing with other memebers of the group?
Muyiwa

It is fun! when we travel be it to Manchester or to Italy, it’s always good to have either Goz our MD when on the road or Femi Temowo the guitarist along. The two of them are crazy!! They need Jesus!!!! I'm telling you. Riversongz always do a cruise once a year and last years cruise went to countries like Monaco, Libya, Spain.... and Goz will have gotten the whole group deported back to the UK if it wasn’t for the kind heart of the crew, the kid is Funny! We have a lot of fun and a great spiritual time when on the road

Dancity
What advice would you give to groups, soloists, the young rapper, writer or producer who may be struggling?
Muyiwa

I don’t think I have any new or different to say, but there is something to be said for sticking to your guns and persevering. We were made to overcome adversity and you have to believe that the struggle is meant to help shape you into the gift that you are meant to be to the world.

Dancity
Who are some of the artists or musicians that have influenced you today?
Muyiwa

This is an interesting one, as I love a variety of artist and they have had a profound effect on me, Fela, Stevie Wonder, Boney M, Kate Bush, The Winans, Mariam Makeba song Iya Gudduzi has a massive place in my experience.

Dancity
What is the overall mission of Muyiwa & Riversongz?
Muyiwa
