‘Beauty for Ashes’ was released in January 2005 this album was 4 years in the making and reflects my attitude of waiting on God’s anointing and permission to move forward with this album. The title of this album is scriptural and illustrates God’s calling on my life. God revealed in Matthew 1:20-21 to me that the angel Gabriel highlighted the type of ministry and child to Joseph, Jesus would be. So when God reveals to you what you are called to do he reveals the specifics. The actual scripture the album title is taken from is Isaiah 61:12-3. This suggests that God will take away the ashes of the world and beautify us, this reminded me of a prison ministry I was involved in where people could not accept Christ because they could not forgive themselves.

Where do you see yourself heading this season?
Pauline Chukwuma
When it comes to where I am heading in the season ahead I see myself as different to others, it is very much about waiting for God to reveal the next songs and album, I just want the Lord to speak to me. I have no distribution deal but God’s spirit is at work in this and I am waiting on God’s timing by faith.

What are your favourite tunes on your CD and why?
Pauline Chukwuma

Track number 7, the tomb was just a womb – To me this tune reflects the Joseph situation, it’s about trying to make sense out of it, encourage one to hold on, even through the trials and using it to help others get through their own experiences.

What advice would you give to groups, soloists, the young rapper, writer or producer who may be struggling?
Pauline Chukwuma
It is a very hard process, you must be very sure that God has given you this. So much is happening in UK gospel right now it makes it difficult to get through and you will experience a lot of disappointment and rejection. Only if God has ordained this will your faith see you through and remember Mary’s story and that Jesus was born in a barn, because there was no room at the inn.

Who are some of the artists or musicians that have influenced you today?
Pauline Chukwuma
I am not a new artist, but I am a new recording artist and in the past have sung other artist’s songs. Spiritually and physically you are what you eat. Thus, I have been inspired by Cece Winans (especially Alabaster Box), Gabby Mason and Dan Crawford (Purpose). People who have a strong scriptural base.

What is the overall mission of Pauline Chukwuma?
Pauline Chukwuma
My strap line of ‘restoring hope and unveiling purpose’ reflects the overall mission of Pauline Chukuma. I see my ministry in gospel music as very unique because I am both a singer and a preacher and I see this as a two-fold ministry. I am very much a worshipper, but also a preacher which is why I am involved with preaching on the Dave Prince Gospel show on Wednesdays on New Style Radio between 9.35 – 10.00.
